A handsome face is fine to look at, and so are a pair of perfect eyes. But, is the superficial all you long for? What about honesty, respect, love, or compassion?
Do you look within to find the treasure, or can it be that the X which marks the spot is all you need to trust that you've gone as deep as you need to go?
Beneath
I have scratched beneath the naked skin
Blood and bone are not the goal or basis
What lies beneath the perceptible tomb
Is what I seek to mine for perfect purchase--
There stands a man who never looks
beyond his own blood’s mirrored face.
There lays a woman who is grossly flippant
In the presence of her true love’s grace
Here sits the human judge who cares not
If your name is that which gives you solace--
Fairness is promised, but never maintained.
But, inside the senses which glean the trench
A flawless humor and humble heart wades
I can turn inside out and still be the same
The crystal window to my core never shades
It is the breath of plain and open minds
That liberates hope—the impossible fades;
Devotion traverses truth in evident impressions.
Then look within the hollowed shell
And find a pearl of eternal acclaim
When falls the vaunted outer veil
Still shines the treasure I have gained.
