Emotional Ride

Experiencing depression as a writer can throw one into a tailspin when a character experiences emotional upheaval. I suppose this is most like method acting because the author takes on the role of the character internally. The great writers who "feel" their words, are often the most compelling in verse and story. Taking on such a responsibility can leave one mentally and physically drained. Your pen decides canon, and you can be responsible for suffering, pain, joy, love, criminality, redemption, and so much more.

Many people say that when you write fiction, you control the story; but I cannot even begin to tell you how many times I sit down to write a scene and am just as surprised at the turns the pen takes me on as someone who picks up a random book and is hit with shock and awe. Can I edit and change a scene, or its effect? I can. But, changing something already written, doesn't alter the fact that I as an author have already gone through the process, and by extension, the original emotional experience.
